About Model United Nations

Logo

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Usually an extracurricular activity, some schools also offer MUN as a class.

Participants in Model UN conferences, known as delegates, are placed in committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organizations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that their committee will discuss. Delegates conduct research before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. At the end of a conference, the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are sometimes recognized with awards.

Model UN participants include students at middle school, high school, and college/university levels, with most conferences catering to just one of these three levels (high school and college conferences being most common). Delegates usually attend conferences together as delegations sent by their respective schools' or universities' Model UN clubs, though some delegates attend conferences independently.

Secretary General's Message

“Education is a human right with immense power to transform. On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable development.”

-Kofi Annan

Humanrights. Education. Sustainability. All are key elements that determine the quality of development, progress and transformation in the society and this is what we,as global citizens aspire to achieve in the society.

But what are humanrights? Without education, the simple idea of being an 'individual' is very vague. Humanitarianism is an active belief in the value of human life, whereby humans practice benevolent treatment and provide assistance to other humans,in order to better humanity for moral, altruistic and logical reasons.Would it not be logically correct to state that humanitarianism follows, once an individual is rightly 'educated'?

I believe that Model United Nations is a great way to empathise with tragedy worldwide,be conscious and become aware about the developments in the global society,at the same time trying to solve problems and reaching a conclusion. Why not stimulate the esteemed United Nations,to help every individual who participates by making them conscious about the world? And as Kofi Annan stated, education can transform, giving way to freedom and sustainable human development.

With this objective,I am grateful and honoured to present to you the fourth edition of the LITMUN 2019 as the Secretary General. Started in 2016 by Akshay Raje, LITMUN is a legacy passed on to me by the former secretary generals Mohit Chavan (2017), Nidhi Mulkutkar (2018), all of whom have given their soul to the organisation. I presume that this edition would not only be another ordinary conference, but an important milestone for everyone who desires to make change in the society, how much ever trivial.

Keep MUNing!

Yours Diplomatically,

Director General's Message

-Kofi Annan

Throughout history, the world politics has been subjected to major changes. We are now in a generation has evolved from the basic systems of self-governance and monarchy that existed earlier to the complex democratic or total itarian systems that exist today. In this process of moving towards a more responsible society, globally, the concept of United Nations furnished. And as respected Kofi Annan said, the United Nations has a mission, to create awareness about the dignity of every individual and also, to maintain the peace and security of the world.
