Agenda: Analysing the growth tensions between USA and IRAN and it's consequences.
The United Nations has expressed concern about the increasingly confrontational rhetoric between the United States and Iran and called for calm. The United States has accused Iran for two separate incidents in recent weeks, around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, involving six oil tankers which were damaged. Iran has categorically denied any involvement. There has been many intense tensions in the diplomatic relations between Iran and USA in the past and the committee would be discussing the tensions and what consequences would it have on the world.
Agenda: Prevention of illicit arms trades
The first committee of the UNGA, UNGA DISEC deals primarily with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affects the international community and seeks solutions to challenges in the international security regime. Today the arms race is developing in the space too and is a threat to the human race. Proper measures should be taken to minimize the risk.
Agenda: Role of financial institutions and the G20 in tackling climate change.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The agenda revolves around how financial institutions can reverse or control climate change.
Agenda: Reviewing the interrogation techniques in military and law enforcement.
This committee of the United Nations to promote and protect human rights around the world. The prohibition against torture is a bedrock principle of international law. According to the UNHRC,no emergency, however dire, ever justifies its use. No one may ever be returned to a place where they would face torture. The committee would discuss how interrogation techniques in military and state law enforcement affects human rights.
Agenda: Ammendment of the citizenship bill and discussing the violations of Article 14.
The lower house of the Parliament of India, Loksabha consists of representatives elected directly by the people of India. The citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, aims to provide citizenship to those who had been forced to seek shelter in India because of reli‐ gious persecution or fear of persecution in their home countries. The north eastern region had seen many protest over the proposed bill. The bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 15th ,2016, provides citizenship to illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan. This violates Article 14 of Constitution of India which provides equality before the law or equal protection within the territory of India.
Agenda: The 1984 Anti-Sikh riots and the aftermath.
The Historic Crisis Committee is a special and unique committee of LITMUN’18 which stimulates the situation of a historic crisis and allows the delegates to discuss and come out with new solutions on the past events. 1984 anti Sikh riots also known as the Sikh Massacre was a series of organised pogroms against Sikhs in India in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Many Congress leaders were believed to be behind the 1984 massacre.
